Our firm is committed to providing quality services to our community, while remaining
sensitive to the practical issues faced by clients, including the costs involved in
retaining a legal advisor. As our focus is to serve the individuals, families
and businesses in our community, we strive to develop and maintain long term relationships
with our clients, and to gain an understanding of the particular concerns that may
be facing you. This places us in a position to provide legal direction in the
various circumstances that may arise over the course of a person's life, but also
to take into consideration your personal circumstances and needs.
PERSONAL
Given our wide ranging experience, broad practice mix and capable support staff, as
well as our committment to understanding your personal or business situation as it
changes from time-to-time, we can provide the assistance that you need in meeting
the challenges that you face, as they change over your lifetime. Whether you, a member
of your family or a friend requires advice or legal guidance in such diverse areas
as adoption, prenuptial agreements, a real
estate or mortgage transaction, the drafting of an estate
plan, a will, an enduring power of attorney or
a personal directive, the administration of the estate of a deceased
family member, the improper termination of your employment, assistance
in the midst of marriage breakdown, including separations and divorce, with
their attendant issues of support, property division, custody and access, we
are here to provide thoughtful, competent and practical advice at a reasonable cost.
BUSINESS
For those beginning a business, or continuing to manage an existing business, we can
assist with everything from the initial incorporation to the preparation
of shareholders' agreements, the registration of financing
documentation, the documentation of the sale or acquisition of
shares or assets, the negotiation of leases, and the hiring
and dismissal of employees. We can also provide advice in the areas
of account collection and the successful dissolution or winding up
a business that is in financial difficulty, including receiverships and bankruptcy.
REPRESENTATION IN COURT
We are particularly equipped to assist individuals or businesses that may
have issues requiring representation in court, including personal injury or wrongful
death, commercial or contractual disputes, insurance
claims arising from property, automobile or disability contracts,
or wrongful dismissal. Our senior lawyers have many years of
court experience, and have successfully advanced or defended claims in the Provincial
Court of Alberta, the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta, the Alberta Court of Appeal,
the Tax Court of Canada and the Federal Court of Canada, as well as the in the courts
of British Columbia and Saskatchewan.
We have also developed professional relationships with a number of individual professionals
and firms that can provide specialized assistance in areas where we lack the experience
or expertise to fully advise our clients, including such areas as criminal proceedings,
collective agreements and bargaining, tax planning, intellectual property, the establishment
of family trusts, immigration issues or representation before regulatory and administrative
tribunals. We are able to confidently refer a client with a
problem that requires training or experience that we are not equipped to handle to
someone with competence in such matters, and to continue to provide assistance in
coordinating a practical, cost effective solution to a particular problem with the
assistance of third party professionals who are skilled in areas requiring specialize
knowledge or expertise.
We are committed to dealing with all areas of our practice, whether the provision
of legal advice, our personal interaction with you, or the billing for our services,
with integrity and candour. We are committed to providing regular communication
on all aspects of your legal concerns and will be forthright in dealing with any issues
that might emerge, so that you have the best possible basis on which to make your
legal decisions and to provide us with instructions, based on full disclosure of both
the legal implications and any practical considerations that we feel are involved
in achieving the most beneficial results possible, given your individual circumstances.
